A manual describing protocols for biodiversity monitoring in tropical forest was written for the Biological Corridor Project and the Environmental Authority of Panama. It is published online, in both English and Spanish, at a permanent Smithsonian archive. The manual includes guidance for deciding on where to initiate surveys across the landscape and methods for organizing resulting databases. These can be used to conduct initial baseline studies or surveys of biodiversity at a site. Periodic remeasurement of the same sites will help to understand how biodiversity is changing over time. The descriptions include precise details while avoiding technical jargon, so many biodiversity practitioners will find it useful.
